Donations and subscriptions are different things

A subscription is monthly, arranged inside the platform and split with it at a set share. A donation is one-off, usually goes through a third-party service and in most cases reaches the creator in full minus the payment system fee.

A practical consequence follows: donation money arrives faster because it does not wait for the platform accounting period to close. For new channels that have not yet earned partnership and access to subscriptions, donations are often the only working monetisation route.

Why a third-party service is needed

A donation service solves three problems a plain bank transfer does not:

Do not publish your card number directly. Beyond privacy it is simply inconvenient: without an alert you will not learn about a transfer until the stream ends, and the viewer gets none of the reaction they donated for.

Text-to-speech

Most services can read messages aloud. That is convenient when your hands are busy with a game, but speech is also the most common way something that should not be on air gets there.

Minimum protection: enable a delay before playback, set a banned word filter and define a minimum amount for a message to be read at all. Many streamers require manual approval of every message, which is more reliable than any filter.

About expectations

Donations are derived from an audience, not a replacement for one. On a broadcast with three viewers, configuring alerts changes nothing: there is nobody to donate.

So the working order is usually the reverse of what beginners do: visibility and regular viewers first, monetisation second. On Kick visibility comes down to the category list sorted by viewer count, where a new channel sits at the bottom. Kick viewer services with stated speed are in the catalogue, though of course only live people ever donate.
