Followers and views follow different rules

A channel with fifty thousand subscribers collects a thousand views per video, and it looks like a malfunction. In reality YouTube stopped being a subscription feed long ago: a new video goes not to every subscriber but to the share of them the platform expects to watch it. The rest simply never see it.

A subscription here is not a mailing list but the right to be in the candidate pool. Who gets picked is decided by behaviour: how often that person opened your videos before and whether they watched to the end.

What YouTube considers important

Two indicators determine almost everything:

Subscriber count is absent from this list. It only affects the size of the first group shown the video, and from there the behaviour of that group decides everything.

Where the gap comes from

How to find your cause

Open analytics and look at traffic sources. A high share from subscriptions with low views means the audience exists but is small and the algorithm is not widening distribution: look at retention. A low share from subscriptions means subscribers stopped opening your videos, and the issue is how well the content matches their expectations.

Separately compare click-through rate across recent months. If it fell while retention stayed the same, the problem is thumbnails and titles rather than the videos themselves, and that is the fastest fix available.

What to do

Why buying subscribers makes it worse

This is the key conclusion if you look at the mechanics. The gap between subscribers and views appeared because part of the audience does not watch. Adding new inactive subscribers grows exactly the part that caused the problem: the ratio worsens, the algorithm shows videos to even fewer people, and the gap widens.

If you do support the metrics, do it with views under specific videos: they signal to the algorithm that the video is being watched and help it pass the first distribution step. The condition is the same as always, gradual delivery plus a working thumbnail and retention, otherwise the live viewers the video reaches will not open it. Services are collected in the YouTube views category.
